Durham, North Carolina’s infamous !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! high bridge took another semi truck, earlier today, making this crash number 101 since 2008.

!!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! reports that at 6:30 AM, an International sleeper cab, with it’s accompanying trailer were attempting to cross the 100 year old trestle, located on Roxboro Street, when the rig got stuck underneath the bridge. Thankfully, there were no injuries due to the accident, just a massive blow to the driver’s ego.

This is actually the second incident at the bridge in December alone. On the first, a Budget rental truck got it’s top sliced off when it attempted to pass underneath the overpass.

There have been lots of questions raised in recent years on why the city of Durham, the state, or the North Carolina Railway Company (the owners of the trestle) don’t do anything to fix either the bridge or road. Pretty simple, actually: it would cost the state, or whoever, what is often considered to be, “too much money,” to raise the height of the trestle. Alternatively, it would be nearly impossible to lower the road, considering the cost and also that there are pipes underneath which are also aged at over 100 years, according to the FAQ page on the, “11 Foot 8,” bridge website.

I actually think it’s pretty funny whenever something like this happens, because it really makes me wonder if people can’t read signs. Really, do trucking companies to literacy tests before they hire drivers? It’s also something that the RDU area is kinda known for, because we’re typically looked over by most. Unless if you are an enthusiast of the 1997 Morgan Freeman classic !!!error: Indecipherable SUB-paragraph formatting!!! , for whatever reason, which was filmed here. Book was good, movie? Not so much.

I’ve ridden passenger under the bridge numerous times in the TrailBlazer, so there is no threat to my safety, but I always feel a little superstitious when doing so. Imagine driving over the Tacoma Narrows Bridge...except not at all the same thing.

Yep, trains don’t do steep grades, so raising the bridge means raising the entire rail-bed, including other nearby bridges.

They might consider one of these, since clearly flashing yellow lights don’t cut it:
